DM Background

Drai Shon was once the province of the Serpent Folk. Consummate spell casters, specialising in psychic magic, they used their mind manipulation spells to build a paradise for themselves. Hobgoblins were their guards and other, less aggressive, creatures their servants. They kept hunting lodges on the out islands, and used Orcs as their hunting dogs. They were even able to hide their land, distant as it was from other nations, with anti-scrying and divination spells. Until … something happened.

NOTE: While Serpentfolk prefer to live underground, or in deep forest, the accommodation for servants and guards, were always on the surface, and often well protected to make a small fort or castle.

The Orcs, and most other races, have a vague ancestral memory, but little real knowledge of anything important. For most, it is just ancient history, when the bad people ruled the land - but they don’t speck of it freely, unless a PC can get someone to recite the tales and stories. The Hobgoblins, on the other hand, have more knowledge – still Ancient History, but they say that one of their Alchemists produced a virus that just affected snakes and made them stupid. Ironically, that might just be true – as there are no snakes on the island at all.

While there are a few Serpentfolk left in the archipelago, they are mainly Degenerates

Now, many of the hobgoblin holdings are built on the ruins of Serpentfolk palaces, homes and hunting lodges – although many others have been lost. While most Hobgoblin holds have rebuilt and repurposed these rooms, some have a long forgotten, mini-dungeon buried beneath the floor. However, the best chance of finding one is on the islands, and then it will normally be the remains of a hunting lodge, with a small (and not very rich) dungeon attached.
