Other Titles

This is all very basic, but it does give us a structure to work with. However, I suspect that Thieves Guilds and Wizard Societies would follow a similar pattern.

Academics

Academic Establishments are all about teaching things. Heads of Universities and Academies don’t have to be Master level teachers – although many are.

  • Chancellor – The head of a University .
  • Principal – The head of an Academy or leader of an Academic Department in a University.
  • Master – Must have a relevant ‘Skill +10’ – Head of a College or a teacher of advanced material. ‘Skill +10’ means a total Skill Modifier of +10 – not 10 ranks spent in a skill. An Expert with the relevant ability at 12 and Skill Focus – could attain this standard at L3. +10 is chosen because it means the Master Work component of manufacture automatically succeeds with a Take Ten.
  • Teacher – Must have a relevant ‘Skill +5’ – might be in charge of a school, or teach classes in a larger establishment. ‘Skill +5’ means a total Skill Modifier of +5 – not 5 ranks spent in a skill. At this level Teachers only teach introductory material – students can gain their first skill point in a subject.

Relevant ‘Skills’ might be: Knowledge: - What else should a teacher have :] Perform:- for teaching Performance, Arts, Music Crafts such as Calligraphy – although many crafts will be taught via the Guilds and Apprenticeships. Professions such as Soldier – although many professions will be taught via the Guilds and Apprenticeships. To teach in a Sword School a Character needs Martial Arm’s feat. To teach at ‘Master’ level - they need to be a Knight or a Sword Lord.

Trade Guilds

Guilds are all about protecting standards – and the interests of the guild members. There are a number of models - very early guilds had members with a wide range of skills. Later there were more guilds, each look after a group of members with similar skills. Later, some guilds became single skill …. The model described below mimics a very early guild. If you have enough craftsmen and a big enough city, feel free to have a guild split …. Craft Skills Vs professional Skills might be a good early split after that you could have guild wars …

  • Guild Master – Head of the Guild – they should be a Master Craftsman / Professional.
  • Guild Deputy – Deputy Guild Master, for a multi-skill guild there might be a space for more than one deputy each with different skills – That depends on the guild and structure. Every Guild Deputy should be a Master Craftsman / Professional.
  • Master - Must have a relevant ‘Skill +10’ - that means a total Skill Modifier of +10 – not 10 ranks spent in a skill. An Expert with the relevant ability at 12 and Skill Focus – could attain this standard at L3. +10 is chosen because it means the Master Work component of manufacture automatically succeeds with a Take Ten.
  • Member - Must have a relevant ‘Skill +5’ – that means a total Skill Modifier of +5 – not 5 ranks spent in a skill. At this level Teachers only teach introductory material – students can gain their first skill point in a subject.
