Restov Military

Restov is not a very well-ordered city state. The city guard patrol the area around the citadel, but the rest of the city is policed by students from the three greater sword-schools or the house-guards of various nobles and businesses. Policing of the surrounding area is just as chaotic. Restov Military details

City Troop Types

The duellists who are responsible for security across much of the city, are not particularly well organised and are not dressed in a standard uniform. Apart from the armour and sword, they might well be the person standing next to you.

  • Aldori Duellists – These guys rarely have the same armour or style of clothing, about all that distinguished them is light armour, an Aldori Duelling Sword and an attitude. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry. As the largest School they are found across a large swathe of the city, although their coverage is a bit sporadic.
  • Rondolero Duellists - These guys rarely have the same armour or style of clothing, about all that distinguished them is light armour, Falcata and Buckler and an attitude. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry. They are generally confined to the northern part of the city. They patrol a small area around their school and are fairly well-disciplined.
  • Modern Duellists - These guys rarely have the same armour or style of clothing, about all that distinguished them is light armour, some sort of light blade and an attitude. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry. They are generally only found in Riverside – but there are few of them and the area is big – so coverage is poor. (While many of these are fighters who will challenge you face to face, there are other classes too - A Modern Duellist Guard might well suddenly appear behind you, and introduce himself by holding a dagger point against you back)
  • The City Guard – are the prestigious units under the authority of the mayor, who patrol the citadel and its immediate area, but are also found in the areas outside the walls. They wear studded leather armour with the Mayor’s mark - but that is it as far as standardisation goes. Some carry a light shield or buckler (again with the Mayor’s mark) and a sword of some type - but each soldier carries their own preferred blade. They are recruited from the various schools, in an attempt to show the mayor’s neutrality. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry.
  • House Guards – house guards are found wherever there is anyone with a bit of money. They tend to follow a standard pattern (use the standard House Guard profile) and are dressed in Studded Armour and carry a shield and longsword. However, they wear the colours of their own house or unit. Mostly found in the Rostland Courts area of Restov. You will find others, in the colours of Councillor Thonat Lettson supporting the Duellist patrols in Riverside. Others can be found around the bank, and other places frequented by the wealthy. You will also find these private guards protecting businesses and dwellings outside the walls. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry.
  • Dwarf Town Militia - Irregular troops often kitted out with chain shirts shields and either hammers or axes. They keep order in Dwarf Town. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry.

Rural Troop Types

These troops are generally found in the lands that immediately surround Restov.

  • The Restov Patrol – the second, less prestigious, military command of the Lord Mayor, who are found in out-of –city environments such as Fort Sarenko and Nikvata's Crossing. Recruited from the general soldiery, rather than duellists, these professional soldiers wear studded leather and are armed with long swords and shortbows. They are mounted infantry, which allows them to patrol faster, and will dismount before melee combat. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry.
  • House Guards - house guards are found wherever there is anyone with a bit of money. They tend to follow a standard pattern (use the standard House Guard profile) and are dressed in Studded Armour and carry a shield and longsword. However, they wear the colours of their own house or unit. They are the troops you would expect to find guarding a non-aldori estate or stronghold. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry.
  • Aldori Soldiers – Trained Aldori who have not yet risen to the rank of Sword Lord (and may never do so). They guard Aldori estates and make up the basic soldiers of mercenary forces. They wear house colours, light armour and fight with Duelling Swords. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR2 Light Infantry.
  • Aldori Cavalry – Aldori Soldiers trained for mounted combat. They wear house colours, light armour and fight with Duelling Swords. They are renowned for charging their light warhorses into battle whirling their duelling swords is a dazzling, and intimidating, net of steel. Many an opposing force is broken before the Aldori Cavalry even meets with the enemy. In Kingdom terms, they count as CR4 Light cavalry.
  • Aldori Sword Cell - a single Aldori Swordlord with a small company of Aldori Soldiers. In Kingdom terms, they count as a CR2 Light Infantry unit. This often the Lord and his retainers, or the command unit for a small mercenary force.

Note: An Aldori estate with Defence 1, probably has a Sword cell. Defence 2 generally adds a unit of Aldori Soldiers, while Defence 3 adds a unit of Aldori cavalry.

Others

  • The Restov and East Rostland Chapter (Knights) – under the command of their Knight-Commander, Sir Ferdinand Ledkno, the Restov Order are an occasional force – available in times of need, but often available (individually) to provide guidance and leadership to the others in the region. In kingdom terms, they count as CR7 Heavy Cavalry. Note:
  • The Restov and East Rostland Chapter (Officers) – the junior members of the Restov Chapter available in times of need, but often available (individually) to provide guidance and leadership to the others in the region. In kingdom terms, they count as CR5 cavalry. Note:

Note: The Restov Chapter of the Midmarch Knights tend to made up of classically trained characters from non-Aldori families.
