Shopping in Restov

Dwarf Town

For all of your metal working needs – be they tools, weapons, armour, shackles, chains, nails or household accoutrements. Dwarves of all sorts live and work here – on the outskirts you can find shops, often more than one, that sell just about any item that you might need that is made of ‘black’ metals such as mithral, iron, steel, copper, bronze or lead. (at SRD prices)

However, you might want to get a guide who will take you to a ‘sales friendly’. Forge further into the development. Forges have specializations - and you need the guide to take you to the right one, or else you could be wandering around for ages and without finding what you need. The guides only charge a few coppers – and it is rumoured that they get a payoff from the forge master, if you make a purchase.

Citymarket

Most of the city shops for food here, more expensive items typically being found in specialty shops in the area leading into the Aldori Wheel (#3).

You can get fresh food, trail rations, Iron rations, dried food, ale/wine/spirits by the keg – as well as specialty foods and preserved foods. (all at SRD prices)

Market Street

Between the Citymarket and Borough Court, this street holds lots of ‘normal’ shops that sell the everyday clothes, household items, Adventuring gear etc. (all at SRD prices)

Borough Court

Borough Court is an upmarket shopping area, built around a central courtyard set with flowers in tubs and couple of benches. The gates to the courtyard can be closed and locked securely at night, and there are a couple of house guards loitering in the yard. If you want top quality or Luxury, you come here – but only during their normal opening hours of 10 to 4. If you can’t come between those times you probably can’t afford w anything they are selling. In the court you will find the following businesses:

  • Marcus Magic – Marcus sells magic supplies and minor magical items, and casts (some) spells on demand. He can even get masterwork arms and armour enchanted (to +1 only) if you are prepared to leave the weapon with him for a couple of days. Most first and second level potions and scrolls can be ready for collection next day. Higher levels take longer. Other minor items can be made to order - but might take some time to deliver. Description Note
  • Harbin Tailor - Makes good quality clothes for men. The place to come for Courtier, Noble or Royal outfits. Harbin has a couple of very plain ‘traditional’ courtier outfits that can be hired.
  • Ava Couture – The seamstress who makes the outfits for all the ‘best’ ladies in Restov. She know precisely how to cut and fit an outfit to make the best of any attributes that a lady wishes to highlight – or conceal. She does not hire out costumes.
  • Inverhofenbik – a family of Gnomes who make jewellery and other specialist items out of silver, gold or platinum. If you want a nice brooch, a fancy statuette, fancy ornament or other such piece - this is the place to go. (Prices on Application)
  • Seper Staff Agency - Kasper Seper and his staff have books full of suitable people who are looking for work in Domestic Service - everything from maids of all work, Kitchen Maids, Cooks, Stewards, Gardeners, Stable Lads, Body guards, Footmen etc. You name the job and they will probably know someone.
  • Gosper the Furrier - Fur Coats for the discerning. Some of the best fur coats and cold weather clothing you have seen. Don't want to get cold when you get taken out for a winter ride in your sleigh? Or walking around in the snow? See Gosper ….

(all items at SRD prices)

Gorinev

Walk for an hour, to the east of the city past all of the fields to the wilder lands, and you will come to Gourinev's Grove. A large copse of trees bounded by a thick natural hedge that will deter entry from most people or creatures. A narrow trail leads leads inwards, through a natural looking archway, with poles set on each side dangling with animal skulls mixed with red and black streamers of some material or another. The hedges make it dark in here, not so dark that you can't see, but certainly darker than you would expect in the middle of the day. And they rustle with life, not just the birds, insects and small animals that you might expect, but it sounds like there is something larger in there and you can see the occasional flash of red fur deep inside the hedge. Then there are the eyes. Animal eyes that suddenly appear inside the hedgerow, looking at you …

Gourinev is about six feet tall, has greenish grey scaly skin and a tail, is dressed in a harness made of leather straps with various furs hanging from it. However, the most striking thing are the bright red ridges that serve him as eyebrows. A large red furred Tylacene serves as his companion.

He trains wild animals, sells potions, and casts those spells you might find too embarrassing to ask for.
