Reedham

A small fishing village set on the banks of the Tuskwater (owned by Lady Pipre) it is so small, it can barely be called a village. However, Helga and her crew have decided to make it their home, Tom Salt is Mayor and Helga owns the local tavern.

Set on (perhaps) the largest piece of solid land in the whole of this area, Reedham supports itself by fishing and working the local wetlands. Most of the villagers grow some sort of vegetables, but those don't grow well in the damp ground. There are a few goats and chickens, mainly for eggs and milk, but most other commodities are imported. Villagers fish, fairly close into the shore, from small boats, and collect both reeds and small game from the surrounding wetlands. There are two larger boats moored at the jetty, a larger fishing boat (owned by the Mayor, Tom Salt) that fishes further out into the lake, and a single patrol boat, crewed by Lady Pipre's troops, who add to the lake's security. There is a regular ferry service from Reedham to Tusk, The Roost and Old Castle. The village's main trade items are reed baskets and mats, as well as reeds for thatching. This is supplemented by small amounts of fish oil and preserved fish, made in family homes rather than centrally, although this combined before shipping, with each family taking a small share of the profits.

The road North leads to Elga Verniex's hut, a couple of miles outside the village. The road to the south leads to Rainbow Hall, and then becomes a hunters' trail that runs all the way to Old Keep.

Updated Jan 2023

  1. Reedham Jetty - this serves as a base for the local small-scale fisherfolk (skiffs and row boats), a commercial fishing boat and a single Military Launch that patrols the local waters.
  2. The Watch House - troops from Lady Pipre's personal guard oversee the security of the village.
  3. The Flying Fish - A small inn (roadhouse), owned by Helga di leMaistre and staffed by members of her family. It serves simple meals and cheap ale, although there is a selection of better quality drinks, if you can afford them. There are two small bunk rooms, each with two sets of bunks to accommodate four people.
  4. Pharasmin Shrine - Supported by Pharasmin clerics from the Abbey at Tusk.

Hamlets

  • The Swamp Witch - A few miles outside the village, to the north, is the Swamp Witch Hut. The Swamp Witch, properly called Elga Verniex, has lived here since before Lord Henry or even the Stag Lord arrived. It is said that she can make magical charms and create monsters - and most people of the region speak of her with awe and a touch of fear. She is also Lady Pipre's mother.
  • Rainbow Hall - Home to Vova. There is a small farm here as well as a holy house dedicated to Nethys. They are known to make a particularly lethal form of Tonic Wine.
