Tusk City

Tusk is the capital of Greater Tusk, an independent City State (within Brevoy), and Southern Region's only city. On the banks of Tuskwater Lake, it serves as the main trading hub for the region with trade links To Restov, Jovvox, and Mivon. Regionally, Tusk is connected to Wyvern Bridge, Ringbridge, and Newgate by highways, which give easy access to a network of local and secondary trade routes.

It is surrounded by farms, hamlets and the estates of the wealthier members of the community. Silverton, Barleyboro, The Roost and Reedham are all part of Greater Tusk, and are connected to the city by the Yitis ferry service.

The city is the commercial, religious and administrative centre of the city state, and very much of a cultural melting pot. It boasts the Cathedral of Abadar, a large Pharasmin Abbey and the headquarters of the Southern Chapter of the Brevic Knights. V&A Shipping, Tusk's main merchant house, supplemented by a number of other merchant houses, provide land and waterborne transport and movement across a wide area.

The city is well defended, with three concentric walls and many patrol boats keeping their coastline safe.

The Inner City

The inner city, defended by a great wall, host the administrative, merchant and port districts of the city. It is fully paved and has drains throughout, and emphasizes the importance the city places on its core functions.

  • The Central District has the main administrative and religious buildings, along with Tusk Castle, home to the military and the last refuge, should the city fall to attack.
  • Port Henry is home to V&A's wharf and warehouses, as well as providing basic support services for the ship's crews and the dockworkers, the high class brothel and Alchemist's workshop are, perhaps, of particular interest.
  • The Merchant District holds the offices of most of the merchant houses, a few specialist merchants, bank, duelling school and the city's best hotel and inn.

The Middle City

A fully paved area of the city between the Inner and outer walls, the Middle City was a physical embodiment of Tusk's position as the wealthiest and most important city in the Southern Region.

  • Lakeside is one of Middle Tusk's busiest districts, on the shores of the lake, it is home to most of the city's land-based Merchant Houses and Tusks defensive forces. Housing is generally poor, although there is some better quality housing for the officers and trade masters.
  • College District has military, academic and religious colleges, a school and museum, all supported by a magic shop.
  • Ivory Hill, on the other hand, is residential, and home to many aristocrats from across the Southern Region. It also holds the Southern Chapter Hall, a luxury shopping court and a high quality Taldan bathhouse.
  • Cheapside is considered, by some, to be the people's merchant district, where Abadar's Great Market is supported by a range of merchant houses, stores and taverns.

The Outer City

These six districts primarily support the workers and smaller business based in the city. It is surrounded by a small defensive wall.

  • Watergate, is a gateway to the city. Home to a variety of merchant houses and shipping businesses, a lot of trade passes through this district. It contains the City Stables as well as Yitis Ferries and bases from Marik Metals and House Lebeda of Silverhall.
  • Stadium is home to Pipre's Pit, the city stadium, which hosts the Scrymball league as well as other major events. You will also find a tavern, restaurant, dancehall and brothel here.
  • Downwind hosts many of the city's craft workshops, with masterwork quality blacksmith, woodworker, leather worker, cooper and weaver among other craft workshops.
  • Domos is home to the workers of the city, and is packed with tenements and an apartment block. Recreational opportunities can be found in the park and tavern.
  • Garrison is home to Tusk's military forces - and nothing else!
  • Mariner, another waterfront district, is home to the city naval base, as well as Roth's Carriages, who run fast coaches between Tusk, Wyvern Bridge and Newgate.

The Hinterland

The countryside surrounding Tusk is full of farms, small holdings and other agricultural settlements. There are even a few fisheries dotted along the coast. However, it is also a favourite spot for the 'country estates' of the Nobility and Aristocracy.

  • Villages
    • Shrike Bastion - One of the largest developments in the hinterland, a palisaded village, Shrike Bastion guards the mouth of the River Shrike. There is a watch tower, a community jetty and a tavern, called The Dragonet here
    • Thorn Bastion -One of the largest developments in the hinterland, a palisaded village, Thorn Bastion guards the mouth of the River Thorn. There is a watch tower and a community jetty here.
  • Estates
    • leMaistre Estate - Henry leMaistre has built a Fortified Manor House, surrounded by country parks, to serve as his family home.
    • Lodkova-Sud House - Adoven and Vik, of V&A merchants, have built a Fortified Manor House to serve as their family home.
    • Solanus House - a small country estate that serves as home to the Medveyd-Solanus family
  • Other Hamlets
    • Kensen Stud - Home of Jennavieve Kensen's Horse breeding and training establishment.
    • Shrikemouth - set on the far side of the River Shrike, The Yitis Fishery helps provide a ferry service for access to Barleyboro. It is is also the location of the Yitis family home and swordschool.
    • Rothchard - On the Kunlun Road, this great farm specializes in Plum orchards. There is a craft brewery making a local plum wine, although most of that is sent to the Roth's distillery in Tusk, to make plum brandy.
    • Abadar's Garden - a farm owned and tended by the priests of Abadar.
  • City farms The City of Tusk owns five farms in the hinterlands - 2 specialize in grain, one each in Sheep, Cattle and Hemp
