To the residents, it is just The Island, while outsiders rarely refer to the island itself, and only seem interested in the town of Croston. He explored a short distance inland, bur never really got into the interior of the continent. By the time the river reaches the delta, it is slow and brackish - channels through the wetlands appear and disappear with regularity and there is no consistent channel to follow, navigators and sailors need to take great care.
