BP vs GP

Overview

First things first, buying and selling BP is neither easy or normal. The campaign system is a series of Opt-In rules, designed to have minimal impact on the adventuring side of the game, taking part in the Campaign side of a game is voluntary and players who don't take part should not be penalized. That means that players who do participate in the campaign side of the game should not have significantly more equipment, or better equipment, than those who don't. For that re…

Build Points

Build Points are used across the Campaign Rules as a form of currency. However, BP is not money - nor does 1 BP relate directly to a given amount of money, so there isn't a straightforward way to sell BPs for GPs.

1 BP might consist of a load of timber, the labour of a few dozen workers, a spell or two from the local cleric, The local Lord’s good will, food to feed your workers and something to pay them with. And workers might be paid in land, rights, jobs, money or opportu…

While private armies are not encouraged for those without land holdings, even the grumpiest of kings knows that all sorts of people need to protect their homes, money, goods and person. So there are a number of possibilities that will allow you to develop your own defensive capability. Like all things, they need permission from the local authorities but, if you are in good standing that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Initial Build Points

Overview

It is all about BP, and you don’t have any. So how do you get started? It all depends on what you want to do, and the situation you are in. Just make sure you talk it over with your DM first - you won't get anywhere without their co-operation.

Mass Combat

The Ultimate Campaign rules for mass combat are a simple, and basic, set of war-games rules - that don’t really work well for me. While I am happy to play a table top war game, I don’t really want to wargame whilst role-playing a character, and I don’t want to try to run my army as my character would. Ugh! However, I have always been fascinated by Celtic Myth, in those battles the Heroes take centre stage, and while the fight goes on around them, ultimately it is the heroes who …

Overview

A noble house is just a group of nobles who are related by birth, marriage or adoption - who work together for their common good. Any individual, no matter how influential or powerful are, will eventually die. If they are really lucky, they might finish up in the history books. However, you they establish a Noble House, it will (probably) endure - and then your name will live on as the Founder of that house. You will leave a legacy.

Different types of development attract different numbers of people.

Urban
For each 1bp spent on a Building(+) in a Town or City - you attract about 100 people (*) to live in the town’s hex. Perhaps only a quarter of them live in the city itself – the rest live in suburban villages, hamlets and thorps within a few miles of the city walls. They provide many of the resources (Food, firewood, Labour etc) that you need to keep your town ticking over.

Campaign Systems

Overview

Pathfinder has some brilliant ideas for adding depth to a campaign, however they haven't been implemented all that well. The concepts are great, however they all seem to have been developed in isolation and they don't fit together very well. At first glance the building of the Down Time Rules appear to match up with the Kingdom building rules - until you look past the surface. Sizes, costs, incomes returns - none of them work together. Even the Mass Combat rules…
