 Amelie de leMaistre was sent to New Stetven from Ustalav, when Henry and Arice were children (during the War without Rivals) to protect the family from the effects of the war.  It was fortunate because Armond leMaistre, Master of Feldgrau, lost his life, his lands, most his family and nearly all of his retainers during the war. The few survivors  came to join Amelie and settled in  Brevoy.   Amelie is the younger sister of Armond, and Henry is the oldest surviving male of the line.  The few adult retainers that came with them have passed away, but their children are all still employed by the family
