Maruma is always depicted as a woman, although she may be any age. Many temples and shines depict a Maiden, Mother and Crone.

• Some sages consider Maruma to be a conflation of thee Nature spirits (Mawida, Rusina, Maria) worshipped as part of The Church of the Old Lords, an ancient faith associated with towns and villages, that is still practiced in some rural and wilderness area.
