The rule books, and the examples they give, are great - However, I often find it easier to have standard examples to use in games. Not only is it quicker, it helps keep the world consistent as I build it. That doesn't mean these are the only variants I ever use. If I don't think any of these work, or I want something different, I will write it. If I think the new variant is worth becoming a 'standard' I'll add it :)
