Line 1: Line 1:
 ====== Croston ====== ====== Croston ======

 +{{ :consolidated:finaroka:croston:croston.png?200|}}Croston is a frontier town, built inside a strong stockade with regular wall patrols. Sir Tyr Corlian, The Mayor of Croston,  live inside the central fort with his entourage, which also serves as a second line of defence for the town.  Five districts - Elk, Market, Trade, Fish Market and Bayani Quay complete the town.

-{{:the_setting:stilton.jpg?200 |}}  Croston is, still, a frontier town, it is built inside a strong stockade and with regular wall patrols.  Lord Croston, and his entourage, live inside a central compound that serves as a second line of defence.  While the town is quite small, its population is boosted by small holdings and hamlets scattered around the hinterland, which supply some food and basic services to the community.  For example, Barham is home to a sorcerer who can make magical equipment, while Flower Quay acts as the town's port - both hamlets are defended, although not as heavily defended as the town itself.  Residents of the smallholdings have to make a dash for the security of the main town's stockade should there be an attack on the area.+===== The Keep =====

-Foragers in the marsh collect SamphireRomeritos and Purslane (for their leaves that can be cooked)easy game such as DuckMusselsCrab and Eel and Reeds for thatching Small holders grow a variety of fruits and vegetables and produce eggs and some goat's milkwhile fisherfolk from Flower Quay bring in edible seaweeds and a variety of fishGrainFlour and most alcoholic drinks are imported, along with meat, metal, cloth, rope etc. Fish stew is the most common main-course meal in the region.+A stone wall surrounds the three stone buildings here.  Sir Tyr lives in a small manor housethere is a barracks for his troops and an administrative blockthat serves as the Town HallCourtTax and licensing officeAll three are built of stonewith tile roofs.   In the early days, The Keep has served as a citadel and place of last resort for citizens under attack Hopefullyit won't have to fill that role again.

 +===== Elk =====

 +Named for Erastil's Chapel, Elk district is  home to the sorceress Jade Shay, one of the original members of New Dawn, the founding Venture Company. A distant relative of the governor, she ++owns|(and collects rent from)++ some of the other housing and supplements her enchanting weapons and armour. Elk has become the place to live, if you can afford the higher rents and property costs.
 +
 +===== Trade =====
 +
 +Home to the town's crafters and shopkeepers.
 +
 +Shops include:
 +  * A General Store:  selling household items, small items of furniture, candles etc.
 +  * The Venture Store: Selling adventuring gear.
 +  * The Armoury:  It has a stock of light armour and weapons that are commonly used by hunters (including crossbows).  With a few more sophisticated items.
 +
 +Craft Shops Include
 +Leather worker: Making a wide range of leather goods.
 +Carpenter: Mainly household items, furniture and wooden shields.
 +Blacksmith: Mainly making small general items, but can make simple weapons and shields  (DC 12 max)
 +Bowyer Fletcher:  Making Longbows, shortbows and arrows.  (not composite or Cross-Bows)
 +===== Market =====
 +
 +Does what it says - there are stalls for farmers, crafters and general traders of all sorts.  Buy eggs, cheese, mulberries, preserves, small carvings, vegetables  - as well as items sold by sailors and small traders who are in port.  If you wish to sell things here, you need to get a permit from the Administrative Offices.
 +
 +The Market Inn, sells a wide range of food and drinks and has rooms to rent, however, it is more expensive than either The Way House or The Tavern.
 +
 +===== Fish Market =====
 +
 +All sorts of fresh fish are available for sale here, delivered direct from the Quayside in Bayani Quay.  The Tavern is popular with many of the less well-off residents of the town.
 +
 +===== Bayani Quay =====
 +
 +//Bayanir Quay// serves Croston's merchant and fishing communities.   The jetty can accommodate most commercial vessels, but would struggle with the largest warships and, between time, services the local fishing boats.
 +
 +//The Wayhouse//, dedicated to goddess Way, operates as a simple inn and tavern. Bunks in a dormitory and sleeping spaces on the common room floor can accommodate sailors, travellers, and newly arrived adventurers.  The common room also serves the fisher folk as a simple tavern, selling inexpensive ales and wines (but doesn’t sell spirits), they regularly serve up fish stew for dinner.
 +
 +//The Preserving Shed//, set back from the docks, fish are preserved here.  Small oily fish, such as sardines, are cleaned and bottled in concentrated seawater.  Larger fish are salted and smoked, some are sold locally or sent to Ozgryn, others are then died and packed for longer term preservation and might even be shipped back to Razardi and onto Hann.  This dried fish also makes excellent trail rations -  a few flakes dropped in a stew can add flavour and a bit of protein to most dishes.
 +
 +The docks include warehouse space, an office for the FFTC representative, and fishermen's cottages.  Most people here work as labourers in the warehouse or in the fishing industry.  Fresh fish is taken straight to the fish market, but you can often see fisher-folk making fish sauce and mending nets in the open areas around their cottages.

-  - **Market Gate** – This is the main gate for the town, and the fenced area is regularly filled with small traders from the outlying hamlets and smallholdings.  The two buildings house tax and licensing officials - one group reports to Governor Briganda-Shay, while the others report to Lord Croston.
-  - **Main Street** -  This short road holds the main trade buildings for the town -  there is the Dragon’s Nest Inn, various craft workshops, a baker and a general store.  In all cases, the staff live on the premises.
-  - **Well Square** – This large square is surrounded by lodging houses.  You can rent rooms, or a bunk in a room, on a long-term basis.  Many of the rooms are taken by newcomers who haven’t yet found a permanent home for themselves.
-  - **The Yard**  - This unusual place was originally built as a jousting yard, but as that practice has fallen out of fashion, it has found a new use as a general drill ground and practice yard, although it is also used for town meetings, plays and displays.
-  - **The Governor's Guard** – These two small buildings hold a detachment of The Governor’s Guard in their distinctive black armour.  There are ten guards housed in the larger building, while their officer and sergeant are billeted in the smaller building.
-  - **Erastil’s Chapel** – The only religious building inside the town walls. Old Dead Eye, the patron of farmers, hunters and small traders, has had a presence here since the very beginning.  The priest maintains the small fruit garden by the chapel, and say that it helps to keep him in touch with reality.
-  - Empty
-  - **FFTC House** – the only authorized international merchant in town.  They have a ship that regularly makes the trip, back and forth, from Flower Quay to Finaroka.
-  - **Lord Croston’s Compound**.  Home to Lord Croston and his troops – a combination of guards and elite scouts and
