A galley can be any large ship that primarily relies on oars for propulsion, but also contains one to three masts with sails. Galleys typically stick close to the coast, as long ocean voyages are risky in such vessels.  They carry many siege engines, of various sizes, and can deploy all of their rowers as boarding (or raiding) troops - although they aren't, necessarily, the best combatants.
+They have a reasonable sailing speed, 60, which can increase to 120 when the rowers are used - which makes them one of the fastest vessels in The Shackles - or anywhere else for that matter.  While they have a large cargo hold, they are normally deployed close to their home port, or in great fleets - you rarely find a galley alone.  Many carry a detachment of Marines, as well, who can be used to lead the assault.  Again, they can easily defeat a lone pirate, or even a small fleet.
