====== The Berhof Honours System ======

The Behof Charter, specifically excludes the right to grant noble titles, that is reserved to the Duke of Krote.  However, hereditary noble titles can still be passed down to the family heir.   The Berhof Council does have the right to confer the hereditary title of //Laird//, if they so choose.  Hereditary titleholders automatically sit on the Berhof Council as full members. Titles are not always passed down to a member of the family.  The title of Lord-Abbot will pass to the next Leader chosen by the abbey.

However, personal titles and awards are the responsibility of the Berhof Council, and they have chosen to use a very simple system.  Most of the titles are role related and give the recipient responsibility for a region, village or castle.  Once they retire, the title passes on to the next character to take on the responsibility.  It is perfectly acceptable for the holder of a role based title to 'cream off' a small income for their personal use.  Officer of Berhof is a personal title, awarded to individuals who have performed a great service for the state.  It comes with a minor perks, such as a small tax break and the right to attend council (but not vote),


^**Hereditary Titles** |||
|Lord Governor|Lord / Lady|Oversees Military and Administrative matters in Berhof and collects the 'rent' due to the Duke of Krote.  This is a hereditary position, passed down through the generations. |
|Lord Dominus|Lord / Lady|The highest ranking Noble Rank available in Berhof.  The recipient takes an area of land to use as their title along with Lord or Lady.  They are allowed to collect taxes in their domain, but are also expected to provide leadership and defence.  Joromi Dexaro, Lord of Hall Bridges.|
|Nobile|Lord / Lady|Noble Rank that allows the head of a family to assume the title Lord or Lady – it is the lowest ranking of  Noble titles.  Both Lord-Abbot Sheffley and Lord Marvello, hold the title of Nobile.|
|Laird|Sir / Ma’am|Non Noble title that confers control over an area of land.  They are allowed to collect some taxes in their domain, but are also expected to provide leadership and defence.|

|Castellan|Sir / Ma’am|Responsible to the Governor for Military and Administrative matters at Adleweg Keep.|
|Reeve|Sir / Ma’am|Responsible for Military and Administrative matters at a named settlement/location  |
|Warden|Sir / Ma’am|Responsible for Military and Administrative matters across an undeveloped region.|
|Officer of Berhof|Yer Honour| A formal rank of honour, given to those who have served Berhof in a notable way.  It comes with minor tax privileges and the right to attend Berhof Council|
