The Annite Faith

Overview

The Church of the Children of An is the main religion of the Annite people. Cawin, Aquina and Zalina are the Patrons of the Annite people - and are worshipped together in a single multi-deity faith. Annite places of worship will always have a representation of all three of the True Deities - although different sects have different views about their importance and they ways they should be worshipped However, most clerics will offer prayers to all of deities - either singly and jointly. The Children of An provide structure for the Annite world - Leadership, Fertility and Trade. There are many different sects within the faith although they all look up to the The Sonoan who is the guiding cleric of all the Annite faith.

The Green

Everyone who lives or works in the countryside, wilderness or on the sea, makes a small prayer to the old gods. It can't do any harm and it might just help. The deeper into the wilderness you go, the more important The Green faith becomes. It is difficult for the Annite Church to protest 'The Green' - after all it reveres the parents of the Annite Gods.

The Green TN Worship of the Great Powers In their aspect as nature at its most basic. including Veneration of the Sun, Sky, Earth and Sea, nature (etc) in their basic state. There is a place for people - but look after the countryside, live in harmony with it and don't abuse it. Most Druids and Rangers are followers of The Green. There are no temples or shrines dedicated to The Green - however there are reputed to be some very holy places, known only to the druids and a few rangers, buried deep within the natural wilds.

In Finaroka

There is little disagreement between the Annite priests in Finaroka, even though they may come from different Annite sects. Instead they have found a happy medium where all variants of the faith can be recognised and the main services and ceremonies are ecumenical and fairly bland. Originally, there was no point fighting amongst yourselves when there are other dangers to hand, but now it has just become common practice. That said, most churches that hold smaller (more private) services, for those who want a more focused religious experience.

In Finaroka the Arch-Bishop declared (many years ago) that the gods of the Wen are acceptable to the faith, and should not be persecuted. Indeed, priests of Yarma are normally included among the clergy in remembrance or funeral ceremonies, and many an Annite makes a small prayer to to Arth when they are feeling in need of a bit of extra support. However, should the clerics of Wen gods be seen to challenge the primacy of the Annite faith - it could be a different matter.

To the Annite's the core Wen faith is seen a variant of the green faith with Ge, the Earth Mother, represented as Gaya, Phoebe the Moon Goddess represented as the god Lune is and Thea the Sun Goddess represented as the god Sol. There was originally some concern that An, the Sky god isn't represented and that some of the deities have changed sex - but that was all smoothed over some time ago. The Wen venerate a minor power called Varen, who will punish them if they abuse the natural world - there is some debate amongst the Annites as to whether Varen is a minor personification of The Wose, or a type of Valane with a specific purpose.

The Wen have two demi-gods who have also been incorporated into Finarokan life, Arth and Yarma, who are generally seen as nonthreatening. While all Wen recognise these two demi-gods they have a particularly strong presence in Porter's Bar.
