Kismet is a standard pinnace, once used as a river patrol boat in The Strongholds. She was purchased by the University at The Complex, and was recently gifted to the Governor. Although Kismet is capable of coastal journeys, she was shipped here aboard a merchant vessel, as cargo.

The Commodore uses Kismet as a training and patrol vessel - she is crewed by reserve naval personnel, in rotation, which allows them to keep skills current and practice new skills. As one of the easiest vessels to sail, even rowers get a chance to practice their sailing skills, while deckhands can refine their sailing and military skills.

She generally takes a crew of eight rowers and six deckhands, under the command of one of the base officers or naval sergeants, and patrols the area around Finaroka Town and the harbour. Occasionally Commander Yarboro, herself, will take the Kismet on a trip around the island.
