The Northern States

Overview

Relative Distances (approximate)

  • Tusk > Sunsmarch = 100 miles - River only
  • Eastgate > Edgemoor = 60 miles - River & Road (2 trade post villages)
  • Newgate > Oldkeep = 60 miles - Road (2 trade post villages) (longer by River)
  • Sunsmarch > Edgemoor = 40 miles - (but no road built yet?)
  • Old Keep > The Hann Sea Coast - 150-200 miles?

It was a time of exploration and development. Henry had his charter, but needed ‘heroes’ to help him clear and settle the land. He started by founding a settlement at Tusk, then handed it over to the heroes to run - creating a free city ruled by an Independent mayor elected by the great and good of the area. Soon a number of towns were settled - owned and run by those same ‘great and good’ heroes. Foremost among them were Ringbridge (Cyrus Ondari), Silverton (Cass Mordane), New Dawn (Marik Aeris), White Run (Safiya Vallani), and New Gate (Heny leMaistre). With a number of smaller towns and settlements, dotted around between, overseen by local Mayors.

Eventually two groups headed off to form independent settlements - Dom Solanus and his followers went east to found Sunsmarch, while Zelona the Druid went North to found Old Keep. Sunsmarch was intended to become a new homeland for the Aldori, who wished for a more settled life than was possible in Maven. Old Keep was to become a ‘natural’ region suitable for Druids, Rangers and other nature lovers. Lord Henry supported but, partly with some of his own funds, but mainly through his family company of DELEM (that grew into a large land-based merchant house). Both of those venture succeeded - and Henry became a very rich man. While he has passed away, his family are still the richest power group in the city-state of Tusk.

The third settlement project (Known as The Old Frontier) hasn’t really succeeded yet. Implemented by Lord Falke (The Mayor of East Gate), it was supported by DELEM, The Church of Iomedae, House Yitis, Lady Safiya and others, it never quite got off the ground in the same way as others. There was no clear direction, Lord Falke didn’t have the resources to develop properly, and it has become one of those ‘ongoing projects’ that needs picking up by the scruff of the neck, given a good shake and then knocked into shape by a strong leader - although there isn’t anyone to take that role. However, it is a thriving, if disorganised region with scope for settlement and adventure.

Old Frontier

Investments - while the following made investments in the project, it hasn't really paid off yet.

  • Henry helped build the road from East Gate to Edgemoor
  • DELEM East Built two 'Trade Posts' along the route - just the right distance apart for a human or a mule to walk.
  • Lady Safiya built a canal that enable waterborne travel between Whiterun and Edgemoor - and collects a fee for its use.
  • Yitis runs the boat service between Edgemoor and Tusk and built a tradepost / dock in Edgemore
  • Sir Kendrick built his abbey at Edgemoor, and coordinated the military forces. As March Warden he dollects a small tax to fund ongoing military endeavours.
  • Lord Falke paid for some troops and built housing in Edgemoor, but didn't have money enough to see the project through. However, he managed to expand his holdings in Eastgate slightly and earned himself the title of Nobile.

But now the energy for co-ordinated development has gone. However, there are still plenty of people who want to win their own fame and fortune - The Frontier region still grows and develops - but without any sort of co-ordinated plan.

OOC Notes

The Old Frontier region incorporates many of the villages from Midmarch, with some things taken from the old Great Tusk (Barleyboro becomes Granton, Kendrick settled Edgemoor, rather than The Roost)

Sunsmarch

The focus for Sunsmarch becomes building a new home settlement for The Aldori, supported by other, non-mainstream groups (Alisa's church of the Moon, etc). It keeps most of its developments from The Stolen Land Game - with the addition of Apple Lodge (Aldori) and perhaps one or two others, if I can find something suitable. Layout changes, because the terrain has changed.

Oldkeep

It retains the existing Oldkeep holdings (except Bar-Z) plus much of The Narlemarch reserve. Tatzleford becomes the most southern town - and the northern limit of river-borne trade. It is more lightly forested than at present, and edges into the Elven forest to the north.
