The Important People
The Knight Commander
Sir Kendick, holds a rank (Knight Commander, within his order) that is equivalent to a Lord-Dominus, and is the highest ranking person within the frontier region. He is a human paladin of Iomedae is the nominal leader of the frontier. However, he has very limited resources, and a limited ability to collect funds. He is the Mayor of Edgemoor, and can collect taxes and fees for the upkeep of that town and its environs and is permitted to collect fees to staff border guard posts and to maintain the roads between settlements – however, that is as far as it goes. He is also blind. One of the founders of Tusk, he lost his eyesight, voluntarily, to help destroy an evil artefact, and has refused magic healing, UNLESS a cleric of Iomedae is granted the spell that restores his sight. So far, it hasn’t worked. He is a competent and efficient manager. He wears a bandage around his eyes, dresses in white robes, and has an acolyte as a personal assistant.
Leaders
Mayors, Knights, Swordlords and their equivalents have equal status in the aristocratic hierarchy, and rank just below Sir Kendrick. They lead large groups of people, or have held a similar position in the past. They are the people that Sir Kendrick goes to for advice and, generally, keep things running across the frontier.
Mayor Bigjob, of Granton, is a half-orc favourite of Lady Pipre. His previous ‘career’ has included: Bandit; Brothel Guard, ‘Special’ Duties, and administrative roles. He has had quite a temper but generally manages to control it well. Despite all that, he does a reasonable job - and is respected by civilians and military, alike. He is seen, occasionally, training with the troops, wearing good quality studded leather armours, and using either a great axe or a long bow. He is more than a match for even his most experienced troops.
Mayor Gandred, of Northhold, is a long-term assistant to Lord Cyrus. A dwarf of good standing, he is an experienced administrator and a minor priest of Torag. His town is well run, and supports Sir Kendricks work well. He is also a friend to the Ironguard Dwarves, and helps facilitate their developments, although he is not a member of that group.
Sir Borric is a paladin of Iomedae, well into middle age, who has retired from active service. Active in the early development of Tusk, he went on to lead the field forces during battle to secure this frontier land. His reward was a fortified tower, and small farm on the outskirts of Northold. He doesn’t take an active part in the governance of the Frontier anymore, although he is often called upon for his advice and field battle knowledge. He would come out of retirement, if a serious border conflict should occur.
Sir Tib, is technically the leader of Junction, although he doesn’t plan to develop the settlement. A middle-aged half-elf, he led the road building first for the original road that DELEM built and then most of those that link the frontier settlements together. Originally a close assistant to Lord Henry, when his old friend and master died, he elected to stay here on the frontier. Hie reward was the small fort at Junction – semi retired he prefers to concentrate on his gardening and farming research. However, he is probably the most accomplished scout and countryman in the frontier, and would likely come out of retirement, if needed. He is often found in the countryside around Junction accompanied by a small owl.
Swordlord Dragos Yitis-Aldori, is the son of the renowned Yasmin Yitis-Aldori who was the founder of this branch of the house, and nephew of Yermek Yitis-Aldori who manages the Yitis presence in Sunsmarch. Dragos fought alongside his mother and uncle during the early stages of the fighting, and took command of the Edgemoor contingent as the fighting came to a close. He carries an Aldori Duelling Sword, and wears a Mithril Shirt under normal clothing. The troops at the mercenary base (and therefore acting as ship or caravan guards) carry Cutlass, LXB and Buckler while wearing Studded Leather armour. Most of the troops rotate out, but Dragos is based here long-term as he learns as he learns to manage the business side of the family enterprise. He chafes, somewhat, at the lack of action, but recognises that the family’s success is based on its merchant house, rather than its mercenary forces.
Jagit Stigmar is the leader of Ironguard Dwarves and runs Ironkeep. She is the highest ranking Priest of Torag on the frontier, and capable of crafting MW and Magical weapons and armour. She arrived, initially, as armourer for the Ironguard, but soon rose to a position of prominence within the group. While Military matters are the preserve of Lieutenant Burok Ironheart, Jagit has the final word on most things that the Ironguard do.
Other Leaders
Reeve, Warden and Lieutenant make up the lowest tier of the frontier hierarchy. They run villages, military units or something similar. They are, often, the hands-on leadership that most people see,
Lieutenant Hal Ress (Northold Garrison) – an experienced, but unimaginative member of Lord Cyrus’s military. He served a couple of short stints on the border and has had responsibility for a small garrison previously. He volunteered for the post, to get a permanent placement and more responsibility.
Lieutenant Burok Ironheart (Warden of Dverg Tower and The Dwarf Road) He is in command the Dwarf military, managing general and field deployment. Second only to Jagit Sigmar, in the Ironguard dwarves. Burok has been here from the early days, first as a normal foot soldier, then progressed to Sergeant. He is the most experienced soldier among the Iron guard Dwarves, and is respected by his troops. So far, they haven’t been seriously tested, and it is his first proper command role ….
Lt Jamis Shamar, a half-elf, is the Principal of the Falke Military School, in Edgemoor. Jamis isn’t the most charismatic of people, and can be a quite strict in his training methods, however, his students are well trained. Many of his students are part-time, and he provides refresher and top up training for adventurers and the like - he also does some of the training when DELEM or Northold Garrison recruit new troops.
Zebidiah (Reeve of The Ranch) – The hobgoblin who runs The Ranch. His ranch provides a way for minor criminals and surrendered enemy to become part of the frontier society. He acts as their judge, jury and executioner, if needs be. Those who settle in properly, and don’t cause trouble, work for the Ranch - and in return enjoy a basic (but decent) standard of living, and even a small salary. Helga (Reeve of Reedham) – Ship’s Captain and Publican. Dour, but well-respected, she and her crew are one of the better vessels available for hire on Coal Lake. They have combat experience, from the earliest days here, and fish further, and deeper, than anyone else. She is an impressive sight when she wears armour and carried her great axe.
Interesting people
These are people that adventurers might come across, who have some minor influence, but aren't part of the 'formal' hierarchy. Some of them have things that adventurers might want, others might make useful contacts,
Rosa Hothran is the healer, herbalist and alchemist in Edgemoor. A long-suffering Half-elf, she has been here from the early days, waiting in the background to help those who came back injured. Now she is able to think about the more mundane needs, such as coughs and belly ache, among the locals. She is caring and considerate, and will try to find a solution for everything - and will resort to alchemical or magical solutions if required. She also supplies minor magical items to adventurers. Rosa is a follower, and priestess, of Immonhiel, the angel empyreal lord patron of medicine.
Tudra Dorola is a merchant and a member of the Ironguard Dwarves. She owns the stable in Edgemoor and runs a regular mule train up to Dverg Tower, stopping off at all the towns on the way. She handles trade for the Dverg Tower and Ironkeep, and deals with the stone brought back from The Quarry, on Yitis vessels. If you want ato order a MW (or magical) sword, or but stone for building a house – Tudra is the dwarf to see.
Marayne Roth Daughter of a wealthy brewing family in Tusk, who purchased the right to develop in the frontier. Latecomers, they don’t have titles in Tusk, but are reputed to have made their fortune adventuring elsewhere, then turning to Tusk to ‘settle down’. Marayne is well educated, and is a skilled musician, she also writes short stories that are sent back to Tusk.
Thorhilda Brightstone Thorhilda oversees the cutting and dressing of stone at The Quarry. Most of her worker are dwarves, all skilled stonemasons, but also trained soldiers from the times of initial exploration and conquest. She is an honest, and hardworking, dwarf who drives a hard (but generally fair) bargain.
