Troop Types for mass combat rules.

The basic troop type that comes (automatically) with each Defence Point. The individual unit can be changed slightly to give a 'personalized' description - but AC should stay about the same and weapons are restricted to d6 damage. You automatically get a single unit of light foot (12 soldiers, 1 sergeant) for each defence point you develop.

Light Foot are the main utility unit. They might be used to - guard buildings, carry out countryside patrols, police a city, staff watchtowers, guard gates, patrol city walls, etc.

Using the ‘Elite’ Special Quality as listed by Paizo.

These are professional soldiers who expect only to be used in times of war or civil insurrection. They don’t do basic patrols or civic policing. They cost 2bp (or a one BP upgrade) and take up 2 defence points.

Elite Troop (CR +2) Some troops enjoy the sponsorship of a wealthy benefactor, whether an ambitious noble or a powerful warlord eager to fund a band of highly-trained guards. Such troops gain the benefit of better recruitment, better training, and higher-quality arms and armor. Elite troops gain a +4 armor bonus to their Armor Class, increase the damage dice of either their melee or ranged troop attack by one die type—d6 increases to d8, for example— and gain 2 hit points per Hit Die. Their movement is reduced by 10 feet.
