Other Ships and Boats
It isn't just humans, or the main 'civilized' regions, that use ships. Orc, Goblins and Hobgoblins can take to the water as well! However, there vessels are not, generally, very sophisticated.
Basic Boats
These vessels all conform to the technical description of a Raft. Minor, descriptive, items might change slightly, but the numbers don't. You do not need any specialized boat building facilities to build any of these vessels. However, you will need appropriate craft or survival skills. These are the favoured vessels of many small wetland and river communities and variants can be found all over the world.
Crew: These vessels can be crewed using Survival or Profession(Sailor) skills.

Large Boats
These vessels all conform to the technical description of a Ship's Boat. Minor, descriptive, items might change slightly, but the numbers don't. Large open boats used for transporting people and cargo across short distances. They can all cope with short trips into ocean waters, but are generally used coastal or inland waters. They are not, normally, used for long trips as there is no cabin space, but all can survive at sea, for quite a while, if they are required to. Large boats cost 500gp, unless otherwise noted.
Crew: These vessels may be sailed by Deckhands , although rowers can be of any class.

| Orc Outrigger Canoe - A Simple outrigger canoe suitable for about a small orc raiding party - or an inshore fishing boat. Only found in Orcish settlements. |
Keelboats
These vessels all conform to the technical description of a Keelboat. Minor, descriptive, items might change slightly, but the numbers don't. Keelboats are the vessels of small scale merchants or successful fishermen, and all have specific adaptions that make them suitable for a particular role. They are much less effective when they are used for other roles. All keelboats are about 60 feet long and 15-20 feet wide. Keelboats cost 3000gp, unless otherwise noted.
Crew: These vessels may be sailed by Deckhands , although rowers can be of any class.

![]() | Flottah are pure raiding vessels, that are used widely by hobgoblin navies to gather slaves and other plunder. They come fitted with a ram and small fore and stern castles and normally carry a large ballista on the forecastle. The after castle is reserved for the captain and his command group. The command group consists of The Captain a Sergeant and a drummer. The Captain leads a war-band of about twenty hobgoblins to carry out the raid or attack an enemy vessel. The warband will always have one soldier with ballista training, while the rest will be used as supplementary rowers, should The Captain decide to ram an enemy vessel. Hobgoblins use slave rowers (for their eight permanent rowers) and you can often hear the vessel coming, as they also employ a loud drummer to make sure the slaves keep the right stroke. Experienced captains treat their slaves well (for hobgoblins), giving them breaks and half-decent rations - not from any sense of kindness, but because they don’t want tired rowers, when they move to ramming speed. There is no galley, or fresh food supplies, aboard the flottah as, while they are on campaign, hobgoblins live on water and trail rations. There store are secured under the forecastle, and have a permanent guard. The Captain’s Cabin is located below the aft castle, and is the only accommodation on the flottah. Everyone else bivouacs on the rowing deck. Flottah are for sale in 'civilized' shipyards. Click here for Light Galley specifications |
![]() | Orc War Canoes are very lightweight, double hulled vessels. While they have the same basic stats as a keelboat, they are lower in the water and are paddled rather than rowed. However, Orc War Canoes cannot carry siege engines, but they can deliver up to 50 orcs to do battle, but they normally carry a squad of about 20 orcs, however, even that is a bit of a squeeze. You won't find them for sale in 'civilized' shipyards, and most Sea Orc tribes only have one (or two at most). Only used by Sea/Fjord Orcs. Click here for Light Galley specifications |
