Crew Descriptions
The crew of pirate ships come in many different shapes and sizes, although they 'happen' in the background - unless you select one to train, and then assign a specific role to them. Most are L2 Characters, with skills sets that suit the role described below. However, there is nothing to stop you using buccaneers as riggers and anyone as a swab. Mind you, they might not be too happy if they are used in that role on a regular basis.
- Combatants - Specialist troops, who manage siege engines and lead the crew in assaults. Combatants do not count towards the minimum crew required to sail the vessel.
- Bashers – Warrior-1 – military folk, who are recruited as muscle. They do not add to crew numbers and are recruited differently to other crew.
- Marines – Ftr-2 – military folk, who are trained to fight at sea and act as leaders in boarding parties. Skilled with siege engines.
- Riggers – Better trained crew who climb the rigging and look after the sails. Riggers count towards the minimum crew required to sail the vessel.
- Sailors – Expert-2 – with specialist sailing skills.
- Seamen – Expert1/Warrior1 – often skilled in a craft as well as seamanship. They serve as Secondary combatants and in skilled roles.
- Pirates – Warrior-2 – Average sailors, but good fighters.
- Buccaneers – Ftr-2 – Pirates who have learned to use siege engines and act as leaders in small boarding parties.
- Swabs – Crew who undertake deck work, cleaning etc. They probably have basic seamanship skills and can help crew artillery / siege engines. Swabs can count towards 50% of the minimum crew required to sail the vessel.
- Deckhands – Varies – often commoners
- Rowers - Varies – often commoners who were rowers on slave galleys.
