Warships

Massive vessels designed as ships of the line. They cruise slowly under sail (Speed 30), but their rowers can increase the speed chases and combat (Speed 90). They can carry over twenty siege engines, which are often deployed as a devastating broadside, and can cripple a smaller vessel in one round. Their sixty rowers double as assault troops and swamp the enemy vessel, although they are lightly armed and (perhaps) less skilled than marines or pirates.

The Shackles Drekar is a locally made variant, that takes some elements from Viking longships and combines them with the technology of a galley - all on steroids.

A thin deck runs along the middle of the vessel, making boarding easier and allowing crossbowmen to have a reasonable field of fire. Rowers sit on their sea-chests exposed to the elements, although sailcloth tarpaulins provide cover when cruising or overnight. There is minimal space for the officer, and cargo. Siege engines are packed down and stored centrally when not in use, while supplies are stored in a low hold below the feet of the rowers.

They make excellent raiding vessels, as they are able to deliver a massive siege engine attack, and then deliver many troops to the target, and while they are a 'blunt instrument', but some pirates favour them. However, most are employed in the defence of towns and cities.

When attacking other vessels, they are liable to use a broadside, then ram and board.
