Guild membership is prestigious, and gives access to extra work.  While the guild isn't concerned with small shopkeepers or very minor crafters, it keeps a tight rein of any 'serious' crafters and business people in Westhaven.  Guild members (Master or Journeyman)  can claim some businesses expenses before they are taxed, and are eligible to apply for state and local tax funded work.  The Guild Master is elected by guild members who have attained Master Rank.  ++Note|(To obtain Master Guild status, requires reaching the journeyman stage, and have your own business -  either in a leased or owned building.)++
