Descriptions

  • Dump – Somewhere for all the town’s rubbish. It has to be emptied and tidied up every so often.
  • Monument – A statue or other edifice commemorating and event or a person.
  • Public Baths – somewhere for the population to clean themselves. There will be private cubicles with washing facilities as well as a shared use sauna. This is not a swimming pool.
  • Well – Somewhere for people to draw water.
  • Town Hall – civic offices that are used to administer a town.
  • Toll Booth - can be set up in a to3wn or city that has a highway or Canal that connects to another, similar size, settlement. Restricted to one per settlement.
  • Animal pens - Civic holdings pens for animals and beasts of burden.
  • Night Soil Collectors - Civic service that collects Human Excrement for private toilets (etc) and arranges for its disposal (Treated and then used as a fertiliser)
  • Tax Office - used in some towns and cities to assess and collect local taxes.
  • Community Hall - Rarely built in urban areas, community halls are most commonly found in the Hinterlands and are little more that large sheds. It is a place for bring and buy sales, cook-outs, barn dances and other communal activities such as recruiting fairs, weddings, sewing bees or religious meetings - and it is may well be used as extra storage by the whole community. It is sometimes built by the community, for the community.
  • Office of Public Works - Oversee and maintain public buildings and infrastructure.
  • Granary – used to stockpile grain against times of need. A town with a granary would last out longer in a siege or a famine.
  • Park – a recreational area with lawns, flowerbeds and trees.
  • Jail – a lock up for keeping prisoners secured until their sentence confirmed. There are no long term prisoners, as they are way too expensive. Other forms of justice such as fines, branding, outlawing, exile and death are preferred.
  • Court House – where many legal cases are heard and punishments decided.
  • Orphanage – provides basic accommodation for children without parents. Brilliant place for ‘charity’ donations.
  • Hospital – Non-clerical basic medicine for your citizens. It isn’t the best or quickest healing – but it is something they might be able to afford.
  • Mint – make your own coins and put your country on the map.
  • Trade exchange – regulates enables trades between different businesses and characters - Think Corn Exchange, but dealing with all sorts of commodities.
  • Public Arena - A large public arena, charging a minimal entrance fee, used to stage large scale entertainment for the masses.
