Politics

The Power Groups behind the Finaroka project.

The Finaroka Company. Members of The Finaroka Company started buying businesses and land in The Finaroka Isles as soon as the original investors started to sell up. Some of the early investors were trying to cash their investments in, other found themselves overstretched, and The Finaroka Company managed to get some good prices. Before long they had a controlling interest in the Islands and appointed their own Governor - Lady Tara Briganda-Shay.

A little digging, reveals that Prince Augustus Briganda of Angasa, Lady Alicia Briganda-Shay of Galinia, and the House of Shay from Port Elizabeth are the largest investors in the Finaroka Company. Smaller investors include the Royal House of Porter Bar, King Frederick of Stilan, Fatima Bayani a successful merchant from the Razardi Islands and a member of the FFTC, and House Caratan, a noble house based in The Tannery States. Both Abadar and The Golden Billet pledged support …

The Hann Navy, led by Commodore Patch Yarboro patrol the waters around Finaroka and across to the mainland, charged with protecting the assets of Empire citizens. However, they only have two small vessels to carry out the patrols, so while Finaroka Town has a basic naval defence, the longer patrols are sporadic and don’t adequately cover the sea routes. Commodore Yarboro regularly asks for more vessels, but has not yet received any.

Temple of Abadar, based in the town of Finaroka, Justicar Everard Oldbuck is responsible for tax collection, formal contracts and legal matters - including marriages and court cases. He also operates a savings bank, where you can leave money securely, although he does not make loans.

The FFTC are an independent trading group, owned and managed by its members, who trade all around the Hann Sea. Full Members own their own vessels and docking facilities, while associate members lease ships, docks or piers from the FFTC. A few associate members own land-based operations that complement the mainly sea-based operations. Working together and using their shared infrastructure, allows FFTC members to offer their Hann Sea wide service. Their small vessels often take the long slow route, stopping off at almost every town or city they pass - so travel is slow compared to the major shipping houses, but you can travel just about anywhere using the FFTC network.

The Golden Billet are an unusual mercenary group founded in Urgon, to provide defence and security to local landowners, rather than to fight wars for clients. Most are followers of either Abadar or St Cuthbert, while a few follow Iomedae. The deities’ motives may be different, and the members aren’t always the most religious, but they can all get behind the organisation’s main philosophy - a secure life with laws applied consistently. They are prepared to extend their influence deep into the colony - for a small fee.

F.I.G are a secondary investment group, represented, in Finaroka, by Lady Christiana, and act like a bank or development fund. If you have a good proposition, FIG will lend you money - but it must be repaid with interest over the next few years. Digging a little deeper, will reveal that many businessmen and minor nobles are members of FIG, not large, or adventurous enough to make major investments of their own - but they are happy to hedge their bets via the FIG.

Golden Dawn are the original Venture Company tasked with creating a settlement on the mainland. After careful consideration, they chose a hilly Island at the edge of the Mulcroft Delta, it isn’t the best place to build or farm, but it is a good place to get a foothold on the mainland. There were three principals, Tyr Corlian (the current Lord Croston and a distant relative of the King of Stilan), Jade Shay (A sorcerer and a distant relative of the Governor) and Scun Kenyr (an experienced explorer and scout from Galinia). They were lent some soldiers, from the King of Stilan’s personal forces, to help them establish their holding. Between them, they now own most of Croston.
