The Kingdom of Urgon

Set on the south side of a great bay on the western shores of the Hann Sea, Urgon is a very stable area, led by the King of Gonma from the capital city of Dingonal. Most of the inland is filled with rural towns and villages although smaller cities at Falmar, Carford and Laroy give the land stability. Urgon also has a Dwarf enclave and a province controlled by priests and paladins of Hieroneous. Pelor, St Cuthbert and Abadar are the primary deities, which leads to a strong central administration – which in some areas is really quite oppressive. Rediton, at the other end of the nation, is a completely free town that elects its own mayor.

The overall administration has a Lawful Neutral alignment, with good tendencies. There is an official state religion and strict guilds laws. These are overseen, jointly, by priests of Abadar and St Cuthbert,

More details of Urgon can be found here - http://urgon.wikidot.com/ Note, however, that website was written while the area was 'In Play' - some things (such as names and titles) might have changed since then, however, basic information won't have changed much. Things on this page take precedence over that website.

  • Gonma - Under King Tiverin, Gonma prospers. Gomna is the largest state in Urgon and is ruled directly by the King, but while the writ of the king runs throughout the land, Gomna is divided into administrative units called Cantons - each run by a Count. Each canton is administered from the main town (listed above) but there are smaller towns, villages and settlements dotted around it. There are regular patrols around the towns and villages however, there are long stretches of roads between the cantons that are not settled and are not regularly patrolled.
  • Laroy - From his city of Frisney, Prince Kislak keeps a tight rein on his people. Under the Law of Laroy, the population is separated into four tiers: Nobility; Chivalry; Intercessors (Military and the Religious) and The Rest. The laws of the land are harsh, with heavy taxes and strict rules to restrict movement - which are enforced by the Army and clerics of St Cuthbert.
  • Falmar - Ruled by Prince Nikol Von Zeeman, from Falamar city, the principality is rich in natural resources: The Great Forest provides all the timber that the people need, while the Harkness Mountains are a source of building stone and minerals. The land between the two is fertile and the farmers get good yields from their crops – growing a variety of vegetable, cereals and fruits, particularly grapes. Sheep graze the hills and there is almost a surfeit of mutton for the pot or leather making and plenty of wool for spinning and weaving. However, it is heavily fortified as it is a small principality and nowhere in more than a day's ride from some sort of wilderness area. http://baileymail.net/j-bailey/RolePlay/Falmar/Index.html describes the area as it was, the last time it was played in.
  • Versair – is led by Lord Mayor Harlan Rickson (who is classed as an Imperial Lord for the duration of his office). Versair is a mix of villages each with their own lord or political system. Some villages have a mayor, some have a ruling family, other have different systems. Just about all that is consistent if the rural, backwater, nature of the land. Set on the margins of the great forest, it is not a place to be if you don't like the wilderness. It does not have any cities, or even any real towns of note, just a lot of rural villages of one size or another. When the Governor dies - each village gets to send its leader to a council to 'elect' a new Governor. It is a CG state.
  • Rebul – is a small Theocratic state set in the foothills of the Harkness mountains, led by Prince Dudley Weatherby . originally created as the fief for a victorious war-duke. It has remained a small, rural, militaristic nation dedicated to protecting Urgon and the worship of Heironeous. Security for the area is provided by The Most Illustrious Order of the Silver Bolt, an order of militant Heironeans, and the local temples are all lead by clerics of Heironeous. The state exerts a lot of control over the land, labour and wages – ensuring that everyone does something that contributes to the well-being of the state, and that no one goes cold or hungry.
  • Rediton – is an independent town with an elected Lord-Mayor, who is recognised as a Soverign Lord. Once the preferred location of pirates, outlaws and refugees from the more rigid regimes in Urgon, all that changed when Tin was found in the hills. Now it is a regular town - if somewhat disorganized. Something like 80% of the housing is clustered along hillside terraces, while the cliffs behind have been taken over by independent Dwarves and incorporated into their mines. There are a number of small farms and stock stations in the hills around Rediton. The town is difficult to get to - there is an overland trail, but it is long and difficult, and is more suited to mule trains than to large wagons. Sea travel is possible, but Rediton sits on top of a large cliff and ships cannot get close to the landing stages to load and unload properly. The current mayor, Lady Tarash, is a Half Orc.
  • Dersolbek – is a Dwarven settlement that controls the primary trade route between Urgon and the Dwarven Clandolds deep in the Harkness Mountains, with some dwellings underground and some on the surface, and acts as a processing and distribution center for the metals, ores and minerals that the clanholds export. Interestingly it also exports barrels of dried mushrooms. The town is governed by the Lord-Mayor, who is classed as a Local Lord, with assistance from the Clerics of Moradin.
