Unit Makeup

Overview

A brief overview with what you get with each unit of troops. This isn't precise - units may be under-strength or slightly over-strength. Nor it is meant to give you much more that a flavour of what you can expect from your garrison. Each unit represents one defence point.

Training Units

Training Units contain something like 20 people (10x L1 Trainees, 8x L2 Local Patrol & 2x L3 Basic Troops to act as Sergeants). During 'peace' time much of their time is spent training, although this contains carrying out 'safe' patrols and guard duty. In times of war, they are used to defend walls and gates, leaving more experienced troops available to fight the enemy.

Basic Units

Basic Troops are fully trained, but don't have a specialism. They are normally found in Military schools and represent students training for a specialism or training staff. (10x L3 basic Troops) There will be a single Sergeant with responsibility for the unit.

Guards

10x L3 Guards who are fully trained members of the Midmarch Military structure. This includes a sergeant and corporals able to take control of a patrol. Normally they turn out a single patrol of four troops (including a corporal or sergeant) at a time. The others are resting or performing garrison / guard duties. Guards are normally deployed in towns and are rarely away from home.

Scouts

10x L3 Scouts who are fully trained members of the Midmarch Military structure. This includes a sergeant and corporals able to take control of a patrol. Normally they turn out a single patrol of four troops (including a corporal or sergeant) at a time. The others are resting or performing garrison / guard duties. Scouts are normally deployed in the countryside and may be away on extended patrols.

Cavalry

5x cavalrymen and their horses who are fully trained members of the Midmarch Military structure. This includes a sergeant and a corporal able to take control of a patrol. They turn out as a unit and do not normally carry out guard duties - they are responsible for looking after their own horses. They may be away from home on extended patrols.

Officer

Single unit garrisons are generally run by their Sergeant, while larger garrisons have an Officer to oversee the separate units. Officers, but not Sergeants, have a small number of auxiliaries assigned to them to help run the garrison. The auxiliaries are often used to supplement the watch rota.
