New Dawn

A small town that is the administrative centre for Aeris Estates that has recently become of interest to dwarven investors. It is a bustling town, with the intent of becoming a centre for arcane curiosity, training, enlightenment, and wonder within Midmarch. House Aeris is allied to the Dwarves of Clan Stigmar.

New Dawn is a walled town, that is organized into four districts with Sundance Square as the central square and “downtown”, the Merchant Quarter to the north of the Square, the Dawn Ward to the east, and Duskside to the west.

Sundance Square

Sundance Square serves as the administrative centre of the town, as well as the central meeting area for the residents of New Dawn. Currently Sundance Square includes:

  • Aeris Villa - Home to Marik Aeris and a contingent of his house guard.
  • New Dawn Fort - home to a contingent of guards who patrol the town and scouts who patrol the surrounding area.
  • Torag's House – A chapel to Torag and home to Brother Lutz Stigmar. It is planned to become a priory and will, most likely, be the leading house for Torag's faith in the Southern Region. Part of Clan Stigmar's holdings.
  • The Graveyard - supported by Mother Beatrix of Tusk, a Pharasman acolyte tends the graveyard and provides religious support to the community.
  • The Lightning Strike - A roadhouse that contains a shrine dedicated to Cayden Cailean. It specializes in ales of all sorts, although it sells other drinks as well and serves simple, hearty food.
  • Silverhammer Goldsmith and Jeweler - Clan Silverhammer's first foray into property since they came to Midmarch. Clan Silverhammer are allied to house Solanus.
  • New Dawn Market - a burgeoning market dealing in a variety of locally made goods and servicing the local community.
  • Public Baths – Public Baths available to all residents and visitors to New Dawn
  • Well – A well that provides potable water to residents
  • Dump – A central place for residents to dump their rubbish so that the streets do not get cluttered

The Merchant Quarter

The Merchant Quarter is still rather small, but there are hopes that it will serve as the economic centre for New Dawn. Today it consists of:

  • Aeris Trading – This serai runs mule-trains from Ironkeep and Sootscale, ensuring the metals mined at those locations are available to merchants in New Dawn and providing supplies to the two hamlets.

The Dawn Ward

Colloquially known as Dawnward, Dawn Ward serve as the academic center of New Dawn, as well as the prime location for arcane training, arcane services, and magical items.

  • Aeris Academy of Arcane Arts - (Known to students as A4) A place of learning not only for prospective wizards, but also those, like sorcerers, whose arcane abilities have manifested spontaneously but still could use training and education to help them better understand and wield those abilities.
  • Sisters of the Moon – A new magic components shop operated by Sejana Cortellos, serving the needs of resident arcane casters as most especially, the students of A4.
  • The Observatory

Duskside

will provide much needed relaxation and entertainment to the residents of New Dawn, as well as visitors to the Town. While small today, House Aeris intends for it to be a bustling entertainment district in the northern Midmarch.

  • Taldan Bath – Owned by Rana Nervetti, this bath provides a more luxurious bathing option than the public baths for those wishing to splurge on themselves. Includes saunas and plunge pools, as well as masseurs and a pool large enough for lounging and socializing.
  • Darkside Park

Hamlets

There are two hamlets in New Dawn's hinterland.

  • The Mine - House Aeris have started to follow a seam of gold found in a cave and have built the appropriate infrastructure to protect it.
    • Gold Mine - mining a seam of gold found in a cave. The workers are a mix of humans and dwarves.
    • Stigmar Prospectors - Dwarves trained in the art of prospecting for minerals who are also skilled combatants. They guard the mine and the ore as it is transported away. Part of Clan Stigmar's holdings.
    • Torag's House - clerics of Torag (patron of dwarves, miners, and metalworkers) provide spiritual support to the hamlet. Part of Clan Stigmar's holdings.
  • The Forest Glen Training Compound Home to Gabriel and Alanna Aeris, Forest Glen trains scouts tfor the military forces in Midmarch, whether it's serving as a forward scout amongst a more conventional formation, or maintaining patrols of the lush forests and more rural lands. Forest Glen is not just a place for classroom learning, but rather a place for practical, hands-on learning led by Gabriel, one of the finest rangers in all of Midmarch., and includes the breeding and training of combat trained horses, hunting dogs, and hunting birds.
    • The Lodge and Military School - home to Gabriel, his wife Alanna (The chancellor of Aeris Estates) and a detachment of the Aeris House Guard. Managed and operated by the ranger Gabriel, providing training of scouts.
    • The Ranch - a small house, fields, and animal training compound. It grows some basic crops, but specializes in the breeding and training of horses, dogs, and birds. Managed by Gothok, a nature adept of Erastil, who is head animal breeder and a trainer at the Compound.
